Climate Change and Green Earth

CPCE denotes that Somalia is subjected to a variety of climate extremes such as droughts, flash floods, unpredictable rainfall, increasing temperatures, cyclones, sandstorms, dust storms, and so on. The aforementioned issues are recurrent in nature and are indicative of the serious trend that climate extremes pose to people living in conflict zones.

Despite contributing only 0.08 percent of global emissions, Somalia is one of the world’s most susceptible countries to climate change (LSE, 2021). Fragility produced by conflict, instability, and political upheavals only exacerbates the challenges posed by climate change.

Somalia’s pastoral nature renders the nation very sensitive to the current and future effects of climate change. According to CPCE, these climate variations increase rapidly in both frequency and intensity. Furthermore, the country’s susceptibility is exacerbated by the fact that it is coastal, low-lying, impoverished, and plagued by conflict. Somalia is also afflicted by environmental issues such as deforestation, overgrazing, soil erosion, and desertification. To that end, CPCE works to build Somalia’s capacities and develop programs to conserve Somalia’s fragile and severely deteriorated environmental resources.
